Live Wise: The Power Of Proverbs
Really, Truly Trusting God
Life is difficult. There’s no way around it. But too often, we make it more difficult than it has to be because we work against principles God put into place. Fortunately, God offers us wisdom for how to live in harmony with the seen and unseen realities of our world. In this series, we’ll look at some of the powerful wisdom God offers from the book of Proverbs that can help us thrive in our family, finances, and careers.

Live Wise – Week 9
Really, Truly Trusting God
Proverbs 3:1-10
My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Key Point:
You can only submit if you have power.
I must trust God with my:
- Future
- Reputation
- Finances
- Struggles (lessons in discipline)
Key Point:
You can’t fully trust God until you stop trusting everything else.

MEMORY VERSE
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
MAIN POINT
You can’t fully trust God until you STOP TRUSTING EVERYTHING ELSE.
INTRODUCTION
As your group time begins, use this section to introduce the topic of discussion. Last week the focus was about what it means to walk in the spirit. We will learn how to embrace the spirit and use it in our everyday walk. This week we will talk about how we need to give EVERYTHING to the Lord because He holds the throne, we do not. Everything is His, whether it is finances, relationships, jobs.. We must give our problems to Him and doing so, things will change for good.
QUESTION:
I want to trust God, but _____________?
UNDERSTANDING/DIGGING DEEPER
How you approach ANYTHING in life, is how you will approach EVERYTHING in your life.

What area in your life are you not letting go of and letting God have it?
We all have areas in our lives that we have struggled in, or maybe we are still struggling in that area. And as Christians, we are supposed to trust God with everything that we have, but maybe there was a time in our past that we trusted Him, and it didn’t work out the way that we wanted it to. And so now we are trying to juggle everything in our lives all by ourselves. But it is our lack of trust that makes us drop the ball. Once we give everything to the Lord, and truly trust in Him, things will become much easier and clearer in our lives.
APPLICATION
HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ Proverbs 3:5-6
Explain what King Solomon is trying to communicate in this verse?
THINK ABOUT IT:
Why not give everything to the Lord? Especially finances, I feel like the most common struggle point we all have is money, maybe you grew up not having a lot of money so you decided to take that matter into your own hands to make sure that your own family doesn't struggle the way it did when you were younger. But all in all, God created EVERYTHING.. Including finances. So why not give control to the creator. It is up to us to fully submit to Him and trust Him with our future.
COMMENTARY
The way for us to become stronger is to give God more authority in and over our life. As we trust Him, we may not know what He is doing at the moment, but He is a good father, and His plan for us will make sense in the future if we just have confidence in Him. We may try to take control of things, but we need to get off the throne of our lives and give it to God, because He knows what is best for us!
