Summer Of Joy
Find Your People
This summer we are taking the time to read the book of Phillipians, also known as the book “The Book Of Joy”. Philippians was written by the apostle Paul from a prison cell which is kind of ironic because he's trying to show us that you can be in the middle of what seems like a prison but joy doesn't have anything to do with what's going on around you. Joy starts in you and you can find joy and peace and confidence in the Lord no matter what's going on around you.

SERMON NOTES
Philippians 3:14-21
All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
Proverbs 13:20
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Ask: Who am I climbing with?
Key Point: If you want good friends, you have to be a good friend.
The hallmarks of good friendship are:
Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. - 1 Cor. 13:4-7

TALK IT OVER NOTES
Life is like climbing a mountain
The goal of christian life is to be moving forward and up. Always pressing on to be more who God says we can be.
Q1) Are you moving forward and up?
There are multiple points in your christian walk where you have a small victory in life and God helps you get a victory, but the goal is to live up to what you've already obtained. You need to put a figurative anchor in the ground.
Q2) What is an anchor that you can do to make sure you don't slip?
You are the average of the 5 most people you spend time with.
Philippians 3:14-21
You need to make sure that the people that you are surrounded by, that they are going in the same direction as you.
1 Corinthians 15:33 – Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
You will become the people who you hang around
Q3) Are you okay with becoming the people you hang around with? Do they have the same drive as you?
Proverbs 13:20
Key Point: If you want good friends, you have to be a good Friend.

Q4) Everyone has friends for when they are struggling… Do you have friends who are there for you when you are winning?
PRAY IT OUT
Father, we thank you for allowing us to know and worship you Lord. We thank you for everything that you have done for us. We pray this week that you put the right people in our lives, Lord, and that although it may be tough, that the door closes to a friendship that is not good for us. We pray that you give us strength to put you first in anything Lord because without you we can do nothing, and with you.. You will always provide. Allow us to become the person you made us to be. Thank you father, we love you. We pray this in your name, Amen.
