Summer Of Joy
Summer Of Joy
This summer we are taking the time to read the book of Phillipians, also known as the book “The Book Of Joy”. Philippians was written by the apostle Paul from a prison cell which is kind of ironic because he's trying to show us that you can be in the middle of what seems like a prison but joy doesn't have anything to do with what's going on around you. Joy starts in you and you can find joy and peace and confidence in the Lord no matter what's going on around you.

Summer of Joy
Philippians 2:1-8
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
1 Corinthians 15:10-11
For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
TALK IT OVER NOTES
Q1) What’s the best thing about you?
Q2) What’s the worst thing about you?
The best thing about you is directly connected to the worst thing about you… it just depends on how it’s used.
If you can’t use the best thing about you to bless others, then it is probably not the best thing about you.
Key point: When the best of me is not FOR me, I'm on the path to true glory.
Philippians 2:1-8
You can’t care for others if you aren't caring for yourself.
God has placed a unique and special gift in you.
Q3) Do you know what your gift is? Have you felt a calling?
Sometimes our gift gets hidden because we have used it wrongly in the past.
Ephesians 2:10
1 Corinthians 15:10-11
Humility isn't thinking less of yourself, it's just like a mirror but with an accurate picture, so focus on YOUR gift to serve others!
1 Peter 5:6-7
When you choose to use the gift that God gave to you to serve others, that is when you will start to find fulfillment.
PRAY IT OUT
Lord, we thank You for bringing us here today. Thank You for the gift that You have given us, whether we know exactly what it is or not, we thank You for it. Even if we haven't used it to serve others in the past, we pray that You give us the guidance to help us use that gift for the purpose of bringing glory to You father. Help us walk with You and serve You and others just as You have called us to do so. We thank You Lord, we pray this in Your name, Amen.
