Summer Of Joy
Managing The Tension
This summer we are taking the time to read the book of Phillipians, also known as the book “The Book Of Joy”. Philippians was written by the apostle Paul from a prison cell which is kind of ironic because he's trying to show us that you can be in the middle of what seems like a prison but joy doesn't have anything to do with what's going on around you. Joy starts in you and you can find joy and peace and confidence in the Lord no matter what's going on around you.

Managing the Tension
Key Point: Most of the greatest challenges in life aren’t problems to be solved. They are tension points to be managed.
Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
The Salvation Process:
Justification
Romans 8:1-3
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoiced in hope of the glory of God
Sanctification
1 Thessalonians 5:23
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Glorification
1 John 3:2
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
Key Point: You only fail if you quit

Summer Of Joy | Week 8 | Managing Your Tension
Most of the greatest challenges in life aren’t problems to be solved. They are tension points to be managed.
There is no auto-pilot in the Christian life.
Q1) Do you feel like you are on auto-pilot?
The tension who we are right now vs who we can be, or who God wants us to be
Philippians 2:12-13
- Justification
-- The process where your spirit comes alive
-- Romans 8:1-3
- Sanctification
-- God takes you from what you are right now to what you can be
-- 2 Thessalonians 5:23
- Glorification
-- The process where you become like God
-- 1 John 3:2
Fear and Trembling = Healthy reverence for the fact that God expects something from us + We never arrive in this life (we’re constantly managing tension)
You will never get to where you want to be if you compare yourself to others, instead compare yourself to who you were yesterday… and then compare that to Jesus
Q2) How often would you say that you compare yourself to others?
Q3) What are some ways that you can help yourself not compare yourself to others and start comparing yourself to Christ?
YOU ONLY FAIL IF YOU QUIT
PRAY IT OUT
Father, thank You for this glorious day. I pray that as we continue this week that we look to You for wisdom and guidance. Guide us to compare ourselves to You and only You rather than others. Father we pray that we turn off our auto-pilot and start living the way that You want us to Lord, that we walk in You way because you are our guiding hand. Thank you for everything Lord, we love You. We pray this all in Your glorious name, Amen.
