Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our Banner
The name of God was so powerful to the ancient Hebrews that they wouldn’t even say it. But through Jesus we’re told, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) God’s name brings salvation and strength. A name dropper is someone who uses another person’s name to get access to something they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get. As Christians, we’re invited to use God’s names in our time of need. God is so powerful that He goes by many names: El Shaddai (Almighty), Jehovah Shalom (peace), Jehovah Rapha (Our healer) In this series, we’ll look at the power of calling on God’s many names and attributes to face the challenges of life.

THE CONTEXT: ISRAEL’S 1st BATTLE Think: what do we need to know when we face our enemy?
Exodus 17:8 -16 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand." 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this down. Recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven." 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, "Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation."

BATTLE CRY
Deut. 20:1-4 When you go to war against your enemy and see horses
and chariots and soldiers far outnumbering you, do not recoil in fear of
them; GOD, your God, who brought you up out of Egypt is with you.
When the battle is about to begin. Listen to your Commander in chief.
“Attention, Israel. In a few minutes you’re going to do battle with
your enemies. Don’t waver in resolve. Don’t fear. Don’t hesitate.
Don’t panic. GOD, your God, is right there with you, fighting with
you against your enemies, fighting to win.”

SUMMARY
The Names of God. Sometimes we misunderstand who God is, what he does for us, and what he means to us. God is everything to us and to understand his many names from the bible will help us in our growth as Christians, our relationships, and our battles against the enemy. He is our provider, our shelter, our strength, our healer, our father, our builder and many more. HE is our banner. HE IS Jehovah Nissi.
Providing is one aspect of Jehovah Nissi. I AM, what you need, what you crave, what you love.
Q1: Removing finances, what are some areas you find provision from the Lord? Psalms 37:25
Q2: It is easy to say we believe that God provides. When we have enough or more than we need it is easy to trust He is providing. Can you think of a time when you didn’t trust that God would deliver?
Providing is more than making sure you can pay the bills. God provides us with the strength we need to fight against the Chaos of the World. He desires to build us up so we can stand against the enemy. Proverbs 18:10 Exodus 17:8-16
Jehovah Nissi : The Lord is Your Banner
Q3: What is your battle? What is your plan for victory? If that plan does not include God, you will not be victorious.
Often, when faced with adversity our thinking can turn us into a slave. There is that critical part of your brain that refuses to believe we can break free. That is why we need to surround ourselves with His word and people who will hold up your arms in the battle.
Q4: God wants to shatter the chains that keep us bound. Can you think of anything you are a slave to?
As you fight these battles there will be times when you are vulnerable and exhausted. The time when you have doubt and are unsure of how you should move forward. This is when the enemy comes. He always shows up at the opportune time to take you down and make you fail. 1 Peter 5:8
Q4: When are you most likely to mess up? When is the time when the slavery mentality attacks? When are you most vulnerable? Think about when you are facing change, experience a setback, or are feeling anxious. These are the times when the enemy strikes. Proverbs 18:24
“You win or lose by the friends you choose.”
As we fight against the enemy, we must understand we are in a battle. A battle for our soul and the souls of our family. We can’t fight alone, and you must ask yourself who you want standing at your side? Who will hold your arms up and won’t leave until the battle is won? Don’t fight alone.
We will all face opposition, and when you do, ask the following questions. 1.) are we in opposition to God? 2.) are we in opposition to each other? 3.) are in opposition to our brother and sisters in Christ? If you are not in opposition to any of these, then you know that it is coming from the enemy.
Q6. Do you think that following the opposition question chart will help in future battles? How and why?
Remember that God does not owe us anything, but we owe Him everything. He will fight for you and with you, but you have to let Him. Never let what is bad in your life distract you what is good about God. If you question it, write it down. Write down your battles, pray, surround yourself with those who will lift your arms up, and allow God to be your banner as you move forward and never give up.
PRAY IT OUT
Remember His name. The Lord is your banner. Jehovah Nissi. Help us to not fear our enemies and give us the wisdom to not try to fight our battles alone. Let us never forget that God is our banner, if we hold Him up, then we have the greatest ally of all to fight the enemy.
