Name Dropper
YHWH
The name of God was so powerful to the ancient Hebrews that they wouldn’t even say it. But through Jesus we’re told, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) God’s name brings salvation and strength. A name dropper is someone who uses another person’s name to get access to something they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get. As Christians, we’re invited to use God’s names in our time of need. God is so powerful that He goes by many names: El Shaddai (Almighty), Jehovah Shalom (peace), Jehovah Rapha (Our healer) In this series, we’ll look at the power of calling on God’s many names and attributes to face the challenges of life.

Week 3 - YHWH
Exodus 6:1-9
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.”
God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, [El Shaddai] but by my name the Lord [YHWH] I did not make myself fully known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”
Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.
Key Point:
If you’re more concerned about God’s provision than you are about his presence, you’re only experiencing half of faith.
The Big Question:
God, where are you in this?

SUMMARY
The Names of God. Sometimes we misunderstand who God is, what he does for us, and what he means to us. God is everything to us and to understand his many names from the bible will help us in our growth as Christians, our relationships, and our battles against the enemy. He is our provider, our shelter, our strength, our healer, our father, our builder and many more. HE is our banner. HE IS Jehovah Nissi. He provides us with our provisions, takes care of our needs, and nourishes us both physically and spiritually. HE is Al Shaddai. He is present in everything we do, everything we think, and in every situation we encounter. HE is YHWH. (Yahweh)
When God gives us what we want we can see he is providing for us. When we win a battle, we know that holding him as our banner was the right thing to do. In all things, though, He is with us, he is Yahweh. When we lose a battle, lose a friend, or have a situation that troubles us, He is there. We often find ourselves asking God, “Please, just fix it?”.
Q1: Have you ever been through a trial and prayed for God to fix it? Have you ever been so focused on the solution that you missed God’s lesson for you?
Don’t get so caught up asking for God’s deliverance that you miss God working in the situation.
“If you are always coming from a place of provision, you risk falling into slavery.”
Q2: Can you think of anything that you have had success in that could easily fall into that category? What have you become a slave to?
Exodus 6:1-9
If you are only focused on provision and are never looking for God’s role in a situation, you will only realize half of faith. – That was awesome.
YHWH
Essence of being
He brings into existence whatever exists.
Q3: What does YHWH mean to you? When Pastor Joel talks about His presence, what do you think he means?
God will always bail you out. He is with you in everything, and while the bail out might not be what you had in mind, He is there, and the ultimate result is in accordance with His plan. True maturity is when you put His presence foremost.
Q4: Can you think of a trial you had where you asked God where he was in this? Is that the same or different than asking God to just fix it?
The sermon ended with the part that made me cry. YHWH as breath. Each breath is Him, made by Him, and given to us by Him. Each breath we take is a recognition in God’s part in making us, making the air, making the world. Amazing, beautiful, awe inspiring.
When we are downtrodden, giving up, afraid, anxious, excited, or otherwise just alive, just breathe his name. Inhale, YH, think of Him, exhale, WH, thank Him. WOW.
PRAY IT OUT
Remember His name. The Lord of Existence. Yahweh
Help us to see where you are in every situation we encounter. As we struggle through trials and celebrate our victories, remind us that you had a lesson for us to learn. We want to grow in your name, at your provision, and at your timing. We desire a relationship with you, one that helps us to see your presence in our lives so that we can help others experience your grace. We love you Jesus, in your name we pray, amen.
