Name Dropper
Jehovah Rapha – God Our Healer
The name of God was so powerful to the ancient Hebrews that they wouldn’t even say it. But through Jesus we’re told, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) God’s name brings salvation and strength. A name dropper is someone who uses another person’s name to get access to something they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get. As Christians, we’re invited to use God’s names in our time of need. God is so powerful that He goes by many names: El Shaddai (Almighty), Jehovah Shalom (peace), Jehovah Rapha (Our healer) In this series, we’ll look at the power of calling on God’s many names and attributes to face the challenges of life.

Key Point: We just want the discomfort to go away, but God wants to heal the source of the dis-ease.
Exodus 15:22-26 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) So the people grumbled against
Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.
There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. He said, “If you listen carefully to the, Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”
Key Point: God reveals in order to heal.
Isaiah 53:3-5 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Key Point: Jesus came to heal EVERYTHING that isn’t whole.
God always heals, but He doesn’t always heal the part of us that hurts. He faithfully heals the part of us that hinders love for him. – James Fields
What keeps us from loving God (and others): Our need to be right Our need to be the savior and rescuer Our need to achieve and accomplish Our need to be unique, stand out Our need to know and understand (be able to explain it) Our need to be safe

SUMMARY – Jehovah Rapha – The God who heals and restores.
As we learn and call on the names of God, we find out that we can call on his names in any situation. Sometimes we need healing and restoration, and in those times, we call on the God of Healing. We call Jehovah Rapha.
Hypochondriac Noun : A person who is often or always worried about his or her health.
When we think of health we think of our physical health, but a hypochondriac can worry about a range of issues. Relationships and Finances are two areas that people commonly worry about a lot.
Q1: What do you worry about? Are you worried about your health, or do your finances worry you the most? I wish I was a hypochondriac about my spiritual health…
When we think of healing….
We just want the discomfort to go away but God wants to heal the source of the disease. This is powerful.
Exodus 15:22-26
God heals our mind, body, soul, emotions, everything. If we let Him, He will heal us, all of us. Sometimes healing requires pain to point at the deeper problem within; what actually needs to be healed.
Q2: Has God ever had to bring to you rock bottom so the actual things that needed to be healed got healed?
Isaiah 53:3-5
God always heals, but He doesn’t always heal the part that hurts. He faithfully heals the part that gets in the way of our relationship with Him. – James Fields
What keeps us from loving God (and others)?
Our need to be right.
Our need to be the savior and rescuer.
Our need to achieve and accomplish.
Our need to be unique, stand out.
Our need to know and understand.
Our need to be safe.
Our need for pleasure and freedom.
Our need for control.
Our need for harmony and peace.
Q3: Which one or more of these describes you. Do any of these convict you? How can you work toward a way to not let these things get in the way of your relationship with God.
We need to humble ourselves, because at the end of the day the biggest obstacle in our relationship with God is Pride.
“Let me care for you in something you can’t control” -- God
